After
School Care Services Available to Low Income Households
|
The
Franklin Township Department of Community Resource & Services
is accepting applications for After School Program enrollment
for children from low income households. Low income working parents
can enroll their children in the Board of Education's C.A.R.E.
(Culture, Arts, Recreation and Enrichment) program. A limited
number of slots in this program are funded by the Township's Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The Township Mayor and
Council have approved this program as a priority for public service
funding from the grant.
The purpose of the
CDBG grant is to enable communities to carry out a wide range
of community development activities directed toward revitalizing
neighborhoods, economic development, and providing improved
community facilities and services. Maximum feasible priority
is given to activities such as this which benefit low-income
persons. Children must be enrolled in the public school system
Grades K-6. Eligible households will be accepted on a first-come-first
available basis. All late fees will be the responsibility of
the parent/guardian.

A lack of affordable
after school programs is a major need for low income households.
Many low-income parents do not have the resources to provide for
after school supervision of their children. These programs provide
supervision and safe havens for children while their parents work.
