FRANKLIN RESIDENTS URGED TO CONSERVE WATER

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, New Jersey—August 11, 2010—The Township Council at their meeting last night urged residents to voluntarily conserve water due to the hot temperatures and lack of rain. The current conditions are beginning to affect water supplies, and all are urged to use water responsibly to prevent a drought emergency.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection suggests the following water conservation tips :
  • Do not over-water lawns and landscaping. Two times per week for 30 minutes in the morning or late evening typically is sufficient. Use a hose with a hand-held nozzle to water flowers and shrubs.
  • To save water at home, fix leaky faucets and pipes.
  • Turn off the faucet while brushing teeth and shaving.
  • Run washing machines and dishwashers only when full.
  • Install high-efficiency, water saving toilets, faucets and shower heads.
