COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL

  • The Health Department maintains records on all reportable diseases that are spread from person-toperson. Investigation of various disease outbreaks and follow-up control measures are initiated when appropriate.

  • MANTOUX skin tests are available to Township residents possibly exposed to Tuberculosis. Residents requiring a mantoux test for employment should contact their physician.

  • Referrals are made to the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Program, which provides counseling, information and treatment. New Jersey law allows minors to be treated for STD's without parental consent. CONFIDENTIAL clinics are held at:

  • FLU AND PNEUMOCOCCAL IMMUNIZATIONS for senior citizens and high risk individuals are given to residents in the Fall of each year.

  • Periodic IMMUNIZATION updates are held in the evening for school-age children.

CHRONIC DISEASE SERVICES

Often individuals do not know that they are at an increased risk for diabetes, cancer or heart disease. The Health Department offers a variety of services that screen for these illnesses. Screenings include counseling and education for those people who are in a "high risk" group or are not now under medical care.

  • BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING PROGRAM: High Blood Pressure is a SILENT KILLER - as there are often no noticeable symptoms or discomfort, you can have high blood pressure and not know it.

  • WOMEN'S HEALTH SCREENINGS, for breast & cervical cancer, are offered periodically.

  • Annual SKIN CANCER SCREENING is conducted by a physician for residents of all ages.

  • Annual ADULT HEALTH FAIR includes screening tests for the major risk factors associated with cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease:

    A blood test (total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides,
    Blood pressure
    and tests for diabetes & anemia)
