PUBLIC HEALTH NUISANCES:
The Health Department conducts
surveys of environmental nuisances in residential and commercial
areas to identify potential problems. The Department responds
directly to complaints for animals, insects, weeds, garbage and
debris,
air & water pollution, solid waste and sewage disposal.

RETAIL FOOD inspections
are conducted throughout the year to assure that food retailers meet
the State Sanitary Code. A mandatory food handling course is held
twice a year for all retail food establishments.

INSTITUTIONAL inspections
(day care centers, nursing homes and schools) and inspections of
PUBLIC BATHING PLACES, CAMPS & CAMPGROUNDS are routinely made
for safety standards and cleanliness.

HOUSING complaints
on behalf of rented single and multiple dwellings" reoccupancy
inspections for multiple dwellings, and annual hotel inspections
are conducted by the Health Department.

POTABLE WATER (drinking)
supplies - new wells, alteration of existing wells and cross-connections
- are monitored for contamination.

SEPTIC SYSTEM inspections
are conducted for new installations and repairs. Permits are required.

The Health Department investigates
complaints, tests for LEAD PAINT (if indicated), and initiates
abatement procedures when referred.
