FRANKLIN EMPLOYEE RECEIVES PAUL AND JEAN KRAUSS AWARD

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, New Jersey—December 15, 2008—Saffie Kallon, Recreation Program Coordinator of the Township of Franklin, received the Paul and Jean Krauss Award for Professional Excellence in Service to Youth presented by the Friends of Somerset County Youth.

Franklin Township Mayor Brian Levine and the Township Council presented a commendation to Ms. Kallon, recognizing her “outstanding dedication, endearing joyful attitude and personality, and the many accomplishments in her limitless pursuit of service to the residents of Franklin Township.”

Ms. Kallon, an employee of the Township since 1998, was nominated by Alice Osipowitz and Sue van Aken, who head the Township’s Recreation Department. As coordinator of the Youth Council, Ms. Kallon has organized numerous programs for teens, pre-teens and their parents. In her position as Recreation Program Coordinator, Ms. Kallon is responsible for the summer playground programs and camps, many special events, youth employment training workshops and more.

At the Township, Ms. Kallon also works as an advocate for charitable and community-oriented work including organizing donation drives for underprivileged families, the armed forces, and the Franklin Township Food Bank.

Township Manager Kenneth W. Daly applauded Ms. Kallon on her award and the fine work she is doing with the youth. He said thanks also goes to Ms. Osipowitz for her leadership in the Recreation Department which has had such a positive influence in the Township.

Paul and Jean Krauss were actively involved in providing services to youth in their careers and have a long history of involvement in Somerset County youth programs. The Friends of Somerset County Youth award is given to the “professional who has demonstrated an impact through direct work on the lives of children who are at-risk of or involved in the Juvenile Justice system.”
