Female who resides in Franklin Township; if she doesn't live in
NJ then,
Male who resides in Franklin Township; if he doesn't live in NJ
then,
Town where the ceremony is taking place - if BOTH are from out
of state.
WHERE
TO APPLY -
The Franklin Township Health Department, 935 Hamilton Street,
Somerset
Monday thru Friday from 10 - 12 and 2 - 4 excluding holidays.
No application will be taken after 4 P.M
PERSONS
REQUIRED TO BE PRESENT AT TIME OF APPLICATION -
Bride, Groom & 1 Witness, who is 18 years or older, knows
the couple & speaks English.
ITEMS
REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION - ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE IN ENGLISH
1. Driver's License or Birth Certificate or passport
2. Proof of residency such as driver's license, lease, tax return,
etc.
3. Name & birth place (country or state) of both sets of parents
(maiden names of mothers)
4. Name, address & phone number of the person performing the
marriage ceremony
5. Name of the place, and city where the ceremony will be held
6. $28.00 payable in exact cash only
7. If married before, death certificate or divorce papers, whichever
applies
8. Social Security Cards or numbers
WHEN
TO COME IN AND WAITING PERIOD, AFTER FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION
-
The recommendation is to come in at least two weeks before the
ceremony. There is a mandated 72-hour waiting period from the
time of application. (Remember, we are closed on weekends, which
means you must apply by Tuesday in order to pick up the license
on Friday for Friday night, Saturday or Sunday marriage). The
marriage license is good for 30 days from the date of pick up.
WAIVER
-
If, 72 hours cannot be met, call the Somerset County Court House
for the waiver at 908-231-7600.
Bring your driver's license or birth certificate & divorce
papers or death certificate.
REMARRIAGE
LICENSE
Bring your marriage license. No waiting period required. Please
call if you have any questions.
MINORS
- (UNDER 18 YEARS OLD)
Contact the Health Department for specific information.
FILING
& CERTIFIED COPIES OF THE MARRIAGE LICENSE -
The marriage license will be recorded in the town where the marriage
ceremony took place, and the certified copies can be obtained
from them also.
