Traffic Safety - Bicycle Safety

It is important that anyone who rides a bicycle on the road remembers that a bicycle is a vehicle. Hopefully this list of information will help to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride.

1. Obey all Traffic Laws.

A. Stop Signs.
B. Yield Signs.
C. Traffic Signals.
D. Regulatory Signs.
E. Signal all turns and lane changes.
2. Ride on the right side of the road with the flow of traffic.

3. Ride single file except when traffic is not impeded.

4. If riding at night you must have a white light to the front and a red light to the rear. The lights must be visible for 500 feet.

5. Properly fitted and fastened helmets required for persons under the age of 14 although we recommend that everyone wears one.

6. Bicycles must be equipped with:

A. Audible Signal that carries at least 100 feet.
B. Brake capable of making the tire skid.
7. Operators shall keep both hands on the handlebars and both feet on the pedals at all times.

8. No bicycle shall carry more than the number of persons it was designed for.

9. No person shall be allowed to hitch a ride on a vehicle or streetcar.
