The officers of the Traffic Safety Bureau are responsible for many different duties within the township. Officers in the bureau handle day to day complaints and issues such as parking, speeding and other moving violations, view obstructions, work zones and roadway hazards. To complete these duties the officers are trained and educated in various technical fields such as crash investigation and reconstruction, traffic engineering and specialized enforcement. The bureau works closely with several agencies and offices to ensure the safe transportation of persons, vehicles and property through the township. Some of these include: Franklin Township Board of Education Transportation Department, Somerset County Traffic Safety Services, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety. Lastly the Traffic Safety Bureau is responsible for supervising the township's school crossing guards and tow services.
There are several safety programs available to the public. The officers in Traffic are able to perform child seat inspections, conduct bicycle registrations and present traffic related safety talks.
Currently, there are 4 officers assigned to the Traffic Safety Bureau, which includes Staff Sgt. Christopher Rokicki, Corporal Keith Hermann, Officer Michael Deutchman and Officer Richard Hartnett.
