SHADE TREE
COMMISSION MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm. All members were present. The 9/11 memorial tree planting was discussed. Jeff Baumley has marked out all sites with Rick Goetz, head of maintenance. A list was distributed that marked the sites and the Shade Tree member responsible for that school was designated. M. Orsini will cover both Conerly Road and McAffee, since Sheila Geoghegan will be out of town on that date. It was suggested that Jeff Baumley re-confirm the details with Rick Goetz-i.e. will there be at least 5 gallons of water per tree, shovels, etc. Jeff pointed out that some sites require amendment of the soil with peat and all sites need mulch. Barbara Jaquett offered that Pulte would pick up all incidental costs, an offer gratefully accepted immediately. It was also suggested that each member responsible for a school contact and coordinate with that school's principal, to introduce themselves and work out any details. Al Galdi volunteered to water each tree again, using his 55-gallon barrel. M. Orsini will do a press release with the necessary details. Core training in Cape May-October 18-20th. It was determined that Mark Evans will go one day for continuing education (CE) credits, since he is already Core-trained and that Mike Orsini will attend Core training itself, so we meet the requirement of having 22 Core-trained individuals. Barbara Jaquett will attend either Friday or Saturday, so that we will meet the requirement of having a total of 8 CE credits for the Commission. The cost will be paid for through the Commission's portion of the DPW budget-the PO is already in place. Mike Orsini
has the 2003 CSIP grant application-max is 6K with 25% community match.
He asked Mark Evans to inquire from DPW about a specific project-street
or park that they would prefer to have done. He will model the grant
on the successful 2002 application. Jeff Baumley has placed the order for approximately twenty (20) 6-8 foot branched trees for spring (Earth/Arbor Day?) planting. The revisions in the Environmental Commission guidelines made by Jeff Baumley were presented in detail. Sheila Geoghegan volunteered to type the original guidelines. Following this, Jeff will send Mike Orsini the changes, which he will incorporate into a final document. Mike will attempt to have a member of the EC attend one of our meetings or vice-versa to brief them on the final document. Tom Doty of the NJ Shade Tree Federation contacted Mike Orsini re. training for the Treekeepers. Mike envisions training at the South Middlebush Tree Farm, with perhaps a short excursion to Hamilton Street for pruning. We are considering the 21st or 28th of September or October 5th. Al Galdi has those dates free and will grant access to the farm. Mike Orsini will contact the individuals to canvass for the best date. Those who can't attend will be trained by other Treekeepers or a member of the Commission. The public portion was opened. No one from the public was present. The public portion was adjourned. The meeting was adjourned at 9 pm. |
