Choosing the right tree for your property should bring into consideration two important factors. The first being what your needs are i.e. flowering, shade, screen etc. The second being the site conditions existing in your yard in the location where you would like to plant the tree. Generally the soil type throughout most of Franklin Township is of red shale origin, heavy textured and can range from a well-drained clay loam to a poorly drained heavily compacted soil. Dig a few test holes, fill with water and determine your site conditions. This will be perhaps the greatest determining factor to dictate which tree is best for you.
