Butler Road Natural Area
Trail Map-Printable
The 185 acre Butler Road Natural Area was acquired by the township in the 1970’s after a developer purchased this and surrounding land to develop as a housing development. As part of a subsequent developer’s agreement, these 185 acres were donated to the township as open space and other areas nearby were developed as houses. In 2007, the township opened this area to the public after laying out the 4.5 miles of trails. Unique Wildlife and Landscape Features The tract is almost entirely forested. The Ten Mile Run stream runs south-to-north through the center of the natural area with the trail crossing the stream at two locations. No bridges exist to cross the stream, so during wet periods, crossing may be difficult and your feet may get wet. Portions of the trail go through mature forest, other portions through an emerging cedar forest and portions parallel the stream – offering many different landscapes in the course of a short distance. Passive Recreation Activities Hiking, bird-watching, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular on the trail. An Eagle Scout constructed the kiosk and another scout constructed and erected a bat nesting box near the stream.
This is a carry-in/carry-out facility.
There are no restrooms on site.
