As the leaves start to paint our town in shades of red and gold, we are excited to announce the launch of our much-anticipated Annual Leaf Cleanup Program by the Public Works Department! This longstanding community initiative aims to keep our neighborhoods pristine during the fall season. In the spirit of community and environmental responsibility, it's essential to highlight the significance of recycling and composting during our Annual Leaf Cleanup Program. By understanding and embracing these practices, we can contribute significantly to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable neighborhood.

Here are the key details you need to know:

1. Backyard Composting: A Green Solution

Ever considered turning those fallen leaves into valuable compost? Backyard composting is an eco-friendly option that benefits both your garden and the environment. Composting yields a nutrient-rich substance akin to natural organic matter, perfect for enriching soil, controlling weeds, and nurturing plants. For comprehensive guidance, contact Rutgers Cooperative Extension and request Fact Sheet 074, Backyard Leaf Composting, and Fact Sheet 117, Using Leaf Compost. Learn more at https://njaes.rutgers.edu/ or call 732-932-9306.

2. Curbside Leaf Collection: Effortless Recycling

Use any 30-gallon biodegradable brown paper recyclable leaf bag, available at home improvement stores.. Remember, leaves only—bags containing other debris won't be accepted. Please limit each bag's weight to 25 pounds, as they need to be hand lifted onto the trucks.

Curbside Leaf Collection Dates:

Zone 1: Weeks of November 3, November 17, December 1, December 8*
Zone 2: Weeks of October 27, November 10, November 24, December 8*

Collection Instructions:

Place leaf bags at the curb by 7:00 AM on Monday. Depending on the workload, pickups will occur on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
Refer to the Leaf Bag Zone Map to find your pickup zone.

3. Convenience Center Drop-offs: Additional Recycling Option

Residents are welcome to drop off any brown paper recyclable leaf bag at the Convenience Center during operational hours. Remember, plastic bags are not permitted. Find the Convenience Center at the corner of School Ave. & Berry St. For details, visit https://www.franklintwpnj.org/dump.
