The Somerset County Board of Agriculture, in partnership with The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, invites the public to attend “Burn Injury Prevention & Response for Farm & Home – What You Need to Know,” on Monday, March 2, 2026, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm at Suydam Farms Greenhouse in Somerset, NJ.
Burn injuries, whether from contact with hot machinery, electrical systems, sunburn, chemical exposure or lightning strikes, are among the most common in agriculture, and potentially among the most life-altering.
How burns are treated impacts a successful recovery. Improper treatment, such not cooling properly, poor hygiene, or applying inappropriate substances to even small burns elevate the risk of chronic pain, infection, mobility issues, permanent disfigurement and even death.
This program by The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center will review both farm and home burn hazards, tips for minimizing them, basic first aid, and how to contact The Burn Center for referral or transfer.
As New Jersey’s only state-certified burn treatment facility, both children and adults may be admitted to the 12-bed Intensive Care Unit, or 18-bed Step-down Unit. Two hydrotherapy suites, a specialized rehabilitation room and support groups offer unparalleled care by a team of highly trained and dedicated medical professionals. As a nationally recognized leader in burn care by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons, they are an ideal partner to offer this important program.
Although this FREE event targets the farming community, anyone interested in how to prevent and respond to burn injuries is welcome to attend.
