Franklin Township (Somerset), NJ — Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks announced that authorities are investigating a residential fire that occurred on Saturday April 18th, 2026.
At approximately 12:10 p.m., officers with the Franklin Township Police Department responded to a report of a fire at a residence in the 100 block of Irvington Avenue. Upon arrival officers encountered a heavy smoke condition.
Firefighters from multiple agencies, including East Franklin, Community, Somerset Fire and Rescue, New Brunswick, and North Brunswick fire companies, responded and put the fire out.
One resident sustained injuries while evacuating dogs from the home and was transported to a local hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital EMS. The Milltown Rescue Squad also assisted at the scene.
“Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of our police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, the fire was extinguished and further injuries were prevented,” said Director Fredericks. “We also commend the resident’s actions in ensuring the safety of their pets.”
