Following George Washington’s Footsteps: Hike and Tour of Rockingham

Post Date:06/29/2026 11:45 AM

Join the Franklin Trails Advisory Committee (TAC) for a combined hike and historic house tour.  Franklin was at the center of the action during the American Revolution - from the victories at Trenton and Princeton through the end of the conflict. This special America250 event combines a leisurely hike with commentary about the area’s importance in the Revolution with a guided tour of the Rockingham State Historic Site, General Washington’s final wartime headquarters in Kingston.

DATE: Saturday, August 1, 2026
TIME: 10:00am – 12:00pm
LOCATION: John W. Flemer Preserve, NJ-27, Kingston
(the parking lot entrance is located between the D&R Canal bridge and Rider Furniture)

Please note: Do not use the preserve’s street address for GPS directions. Instead, search “John W. Flemer Preserve” or enter the following coordinates:  40.374673, -74.617843

Attendance is free, but registration is required.  https://franklintwp.recdesk.com

The hike from the Flemer Preserve to Rockingham is just under 1.5 miles round-trip. The trail is flat except for a short incline to access the house. Please dress appropriately for hiking and weather conditions. Tick, insect and sun protection is strongly recommended! The event is held rain or shine.
