On October 31, 2017 at 3:58 PM the Franklin Township Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a pedestrian struck on JFK Boulevard in the area of New Brunswick Road.  Upon arrival officers discovered a pedestrian lying in the roadway with serious injuries.   Officers diverted traffic from the area and rendered aid to the pedestrian until EMS personnel arrived.

Members of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau responded to the scene to investigate the crash.  The initial investigation revealed that a 2012 Nissan Maxima that was operated by Nada Gilbert, 28 years old from Somerset was traveling eastbound on New Brunswick Road prior to the crash.  As the Maxima made a left hand turn onto JFK Boulevard it struck Hendrika Houben, 74 years old of Somerset, as she was crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk.  Ms. Houben was transported to a local area trauma center with a head injury and fractured leg.  At the time of this release she is listed in critical condition.

The factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sgt. Erik Hagman at 732-873-5533 extension 3111.
