Franklin Township residents, community leaders, and public officials will come together from many diverse cultural backgrounds and nearly 65 different places of worship to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to support Franklin’s annual scholarship fundraiser. Since 1998, 197 Franklin High School seniors received $211,900 in scholarships for demonstrating a record of community involvement, volunteerism, and achieving outstanding citizenship within their high school and town. The 23rd Annual Community Breakfast will commence on January 20 at 8:30 am at the DoubleTree Hotel on 200 Atrium Drive in Somerset.

“In the last few years, we have been working hard to make the Franklin Township Martin Luther King Community Breakfast more exciting and student-focused. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Franklin Township community as we showcase our students and work towards raising money to assist with their academic achievements,” stated Martin Luther King Foundation President and of the Franklin Township Police Department Sergeant, Sean Hebbon.

Dr. Lamont Repollet, New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner, and Somerset resident will serve as a keynote speaker at the breakfast. During his time as commissioner, the state high school graduation rate increased to 90.0 percent last year. As a leader in the field of education, he received numerous accolades which include the 2018 Educator of the Year by Chi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., an annual leadership award by The New Jersey Chapter for the National Black MBA Association, and a community service award by Second Baptist Church of Asbury Park.
