Resources identified on the maps linked above were selected because it fits into a theme that is described by the term ‘Eco-heritage tourism.’ This term embraces the principles of tourism that:
Contributes to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage;
Includes the local community in its planning, development and operation, contributing to their well-being;
Interprets the natural and cultural heritage of the destination to visitor; and
Lends itself better to independent travelers, as well as to organized tours for small size groups.
Eco-heritage tourism is generating renewed interest because visitors can enjoy the resources and environment of preserved and protected areas. In this Franklin Township Map, the resources are grouped into the following themes:
