Franklin Township Animal Shelter

There are many kittens, cats, puppies and dogs available for adoption. Animals are spayed or neutered and are provided with necessary vaccinations prior to adoption. Adoption fees for all animals is $80. If you are considering surrendering your pet to the shelter, please call and speak to a shelter representative prior to bringing the animal to the shelter (this will help ease your pet’s transition). Please note that the shelter only accepts surrendered and stray animals from the Township of Franklin.

Animal Control Services

An Animal Control Officer is on 24-hours/ 7 days a week to answer animal emergencies. The Animal Control Officer can be reached by calling the Police Department at 732-873-2300.

ALL animal bites (including dogs, cats, raccoons, bats, etc.) must be reported immediately to the to Animal Control Department at 732-873-2300.  Biting dogs are quarantined and only released with a veterinarian’s report.

Free Rabies Clinics for dogs and cats are offered several times each year.  Please contact the Animal Control Department for dates and times.

Licensing Your Dog

All dogs seven months or older must be licensed.  According to NJ law, proof of rabies vaccination is needed before a license can be issued.  Dog licenses can be obtained in the Township Clerk’s Office at the municipal building.  The license fee includes a metal ID tag.
