Franklin Township Creativity Shines at the

"Not Quite Wine & Cheese" Art Opening

In a showcase of local artistic creativity, Franklin Township hosted the Not Quite Wine & Cheese Art Opening last fall on September 30^th at the Franklin Township Municipal Building. The event, held in the municipal lobby, featured 22 artists displaying a wide range of original paintings, photography, pottery, and more.  The 3-hour event was a resounding success with a constant stream of visitors looking to enjoy the wide array of talent on display by Franklin’s local artists.

Sometimes inspiration hits in the most unlikely places. In the summer of 2023, Franklin Township Mayor, Phillip Kramer, was visiting Township homes with fellow resident, Paul Walitsky. Through conversations with many of the residents on his visit, Kramer soon discovered that much of the art on display in the homes of these fellow Franklinites was their own. Inspired by the sheer scope of talent, he tasked the Office of Special Projects with creating a municipal art opening featuring Franklin artists.

Walitsky, who is active on various Township boards and committees, along with former Second Ward Councilwoman, Rozalyn Sherman, helped refer several artists for the event. This, along with calls for artists on the Township website, cable, and social media outlets, encouraged artists across a variety of mediums to participate in the show.

On the day of the event, the municipal building lobby was transformed into an art lover's paradise, with each piece telling a unique story and adding to the vibrant diversity of Franklin Township's cultural scene. Amongst the highlights was a dedicated display of student art, featuring sculptures, collages, and paintings, showcasing young artists from the Franklin Township Youth Center. Guests were also treated to a selection of cheeses and other delectable treats, enhancing the overall experience and fostering an atmosphere of celebration.

Adding an interactive element to the afternoon, a Creation Station provided visitors with an opportunity to unleash their own creativity. With art supplies provided by the Township, the station allowed attendees to contribute to the artistic atmosphere by creating a collaborative masterpiece that remained on display throughout the event.

In addition to Mr. Walitsky and Ms. Sherman, that Office of Special Projects would also like to extend its appreciation to Krista Hegedus, Mayra Jimenez, and Maigore Kallon, all of whom volunteered their time after hours and on the weekend to make this event a possibility.
